Digambarpur Angikar: An Organization: 44 years of journey with challenges of developing India

Angikar is a Bengali word which means to have a deep commitment towards certain ideology or goal.  Digambarpur Angikar , an organisation having its root in the deltaic Sundarbans of West Bengal for over four decades now, has been harnessing its pledge towards a right based approach ever since its initiation. Initially borne out of a public initiative in a remote island, in the block of Patharpratima in South 24 district of West Bengal in 1978, the organization later got formally recognized and registered as a nonprofit, non-governmental organization in the year 1979.

We all know, changing mind-sets of community is a slow process and challenging, but with all our hard work and commitment we have been successful in transforming lives of thousands of vulnerable children, women, commercial sex worker’s- MSM and Transgender community, farmers, fishermen, aged population, urban homeless and other marginalized community people by providing them safe shelter & all round support, proper knowledge, basic education, skill training and Government linkages.
