Today trafficking has become a gigantic global problem putting into risk not only the issues of human rights but also human life in totality. Like rest of the world, human trafficking and migration is an area of grave concern in West Bengal also. A total of 8,132 cases of human trafficking were reported in the country with West Bengal reporting the highest number of cases (3,579)," said the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in Delhi releasing figures for 2017. That's a 44 per cent share of the national total.

Sundarban region under ,North and South 24 Parganas district are two most  worst affected source districts in the state of West Bengal, where the buying and selling of minor girls, girl child missing  & girls engages as domestic works is highest due to frequent incidents of natural calamity, gross poverty ,unsafe migration ,illiteracy ,parental ignorance and poor  utilization of existing resources.

 

What we do:

  • Prevention of Child trafficking:  In partnership with UK based “Her Choices Foundation”, since last couple of years,  Angikar is actively involved in prevention of child trafficking at three different vulnerable blocks [Patharpratima, Kakdwip and Namkhana blocks ] under Sundarban region of South 24 Parganas District through   “Save Village Campaign”: Mass awareness in school & surrounding community, formation & strengthen of Protection mechanism and linkages with excising Govt protection cells. We have covered total 36 schools and 45 communities and reach more than 8000 vulnerable girl and boys students and their guardians.

 

  • Rescue and rehabilitation: In partnership with local police and likeminded Organization we rescued minor girls from sex trafficking and support them end to end intervention: Prevention, Protection and Prosecution work. We have established strong networking with likeminded Organization, police, Child line in different citifies to do rescue operation.

 

  • Victim support Programme: In partnership with World Vision India, Angikar is deeply involved Anti Human Trafficking awareness programme at some most vulnerable villages in Sundarban region. Time to time we organize awareness programme with an aim to breaking the cycle of crime.  In last one year we have reached regular basis with 52 traffic survivors with livelihood & Education material support, trauma reduction counseling and strengthen the path for them from victim to survivor.
